Talking to Your Child about School Tragedy

Many of you may have heard the sad news today of a school shooting in Connecticut. All major news organizations have the current/updated information.

If you would like advice on how to assist your child in dealing with this tragedy, information is being posted (tips on talking to children) on our district website. Click on "District Information" on the right hand side for a direct link.

Special Guest in Our Classroom!

We have a very special guest in our classroom for the holiday season!  An Elf on the Shelf that our class named "Ginger" by popular vote :-)

Ginger watches over our class and reports back to the North Pole each night.  He returns each day in a different place in our classroom.

Yesterday, Ginger was not able to come to class for most of the day because of too much talking the day before.  He came back for the end of the day (wearing ear muffs!)  See pictures below to see the adventures of Ginger!

Our kiddos have been on their very best behavior yesterday and so far today :-)

December Update

I am behind on my updates on here!  I was out of the classroom for three days last week because my daughter was sick.  I'm happy to be back and starting all the fun holiday activites I have planned over the next few weeks.

Two weeks ago we had a very special guest visit our classroom.  A member from the Boise Philharmonic came and taught us about music and the story that it can tell.  The students really enjoyed the experience and we all got to learn a little bit about the french horn!

We will be having a holiday craft party on December 21st in the morning.  The 21st is our last day before Winter Break and is a full dayWe will be having a school-wide holiday sing-a-long in the afternoon.

Thank you for your continued involvment and support in your child's education!

Updates

Homework and Spelling

Spelling lists and homework were sent home today.  I'm still having trouble with Google Drive, so have been unable to post spelling and homework links.  If you need an assignment, please email me and I will send it to you.  I check my email regularly.

Homework is due Thursday this week because there is no school this Friday November 16th.  Our spelling test will be on Thursday as usual.

Birthday Invitations

Birthday invitations have caused many tears over the last few weeks.  If you would like your child to pass out invitations at school, please have them give them to me in the morning.  I will discreetly place them in mailboxes.  Please also explain to children that even though they are excited, it may hurt feelings of those who are not invited and, therefore, they should not speak loudly about or make a big deal about it.

Math Night
Our Second Grade Family Math Night was a huge success!  It was so fun to have such an incredible turn out!  I hope that you enjoyed the experience as much as I did.  The students who came have been begging to play the games in class!  We will certainly be doing that throughout the year.

Thank you for your continuing support!

Homework and Math Night

I apologize for forgetting to send homework home on Monday.  It was sent home yesterday and should be in their B.E.E. folders.

Monday was a bit of a crazy day with our "safety hold."  Our students had excellent behavior all day despite everything feeling out of sorts.  Thank you parents for your flexibility and patience with signing students out... it takes a bit longer, but is important to make sure that all students make it home safely!

Another reminder that our Family Math Night is this Thursday! We are so excited to share some wonderful math games with you!!!  All the game boards and game pieces will be sent home with each family who attends.  We will have cookies, juice, and water for everyone too!  I hope to see you there!
